The Scholastic Clay Target Program was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation 7 years ago. Rapidly growing in popularity, its ranks have climbed from a few hundred participants to several thousand youth from all across the country! The program involves youth up through 12th grade in any of the clay target games; trap, skeet, sporting clays etc. The focus is on good sportsmanship, team participation, gun safety, and shotgun proficiency. Lambs Creek Sportsman's Club has a long tradition of supporting youth in the outdoor sports. We saw this nationally recognized program as an opportunity to continue that emphasis. Early this year we solicited students from 9th-12th grades with good academic standing to form a team based on the sporting clays discipline. We were very fortunate to have 9 young adults express an interest and the team, "Team Lambs Creek" was formed. It should be noted that this team came about, in large part, to the generosity of many local businesses who donated funds to defray startup costs. Without their support and the support of the club this team would not have become a reality. Please take a look at the list of sponsors and when visiting these businesses give them a big "Thanks" Team Lambs Creek Sponsors We started weekly practice in mid-winter and on June 20 culminated many weeks of hard work by shooting in the Scholastic Clay Target Program State Championship at Whitetail Preserve near Bloomsburg. The day turned out to be successful for our team despite torrential downpours, mud everywhere, and an extended range time of 6 hours. Our top squad consisting of Cody Jenkins, Stephen Banke, and Luke Sampson placed 5th in a field of 115 shooters. The remaining two squads were very close behind. A very good showing considering this was their first competition. Come out and support the team and have some fun shooting clays. Our team continues to gain significant proficiency, to the point where they now regularly beat the coaches. The coaches have been impatiently waiting for this day to come. The culmination of much hard work on everybody's part. At a recent Monday evening 5-stand shoot we reached another milestone when Cody Jenkins posted the team's first perfect round. As is tradition in the sporting clays community each team member took a shot at Cody's hat thrown in the air. The results speak for themselves! We have hundreds of photos, here are but a few: |
